ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA in Music Education, College of New Jersey Master of Education in Music, College of New Jersey

Awards:

I have had several outstanding awards with my music groups over the years going to different festivals in Pennsylvania and Arizona. I started the Northern Lehigh Community Band in Slatington, PA which is still going on today. It has been in existence since 1999.

Overview:
Music has been my passion all my life. I have a BA and Masters in Music Education from the College of New Jersey, and I taught music for over 33 years in public education in Allentown, PA and for two years at BASIS Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was a clarinet major with an emphasis in piano. I teach woodwinds along with piano. I presently teach in the Chandler School District. I am a veteran with 40 years of teaching behind me. I am patient, and work well with people of all ages. I have had success teaching at any age level.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching in 1979 and had success teaching students of all ages. I encourage positive reinforcement in my lessons and my goal is to make learning fun and exciting. I have had my own studio in Slatington, PA and I have taught several in their homes within a 25 mile radius. I am new to the Arizona area and want to get re-established in the area. I welcome new students at any time. Since I moved to Arizona, I have had several students through Musika and I have had great experiences including recitals.
METHODS USED
With my private woodwind students, I use the Essential Elements 2000 method which includes a cd and dvd with each book. With adults, I use Rubank or more appropriate methods that goes with their ability level. With piano students, I use the Alfred method, or Fletcher, depending on the student. I have used John Thompson as well as the Bastien method of teaching. I experiment with the latest methods to keep students interest and engage them to learn at their own pace without frustration. Lately, I have been using the Faber method which has been my preference for the last five years.
LESSON STYLE
I want to see my students grow musically and develp a yearning for growth. My job is to have each student succeed and to have them be inspired by their own growth. I encourage each student to try to reach a goal and and I want them to progress at their own pace for enjoyment and fun. Music is a life long experience. I try to tell students that daily practice is required for success. I try to tailor my instruction according to each student needs. I want students to feel inspired and want them to feel to have a sense of accomplishment.

Very knowledgeable about music and constantly encouraged and tells my son how good he's been doing and pushes him to do better while making sure to not rush him.

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.
