Overview:
I am a dedicated, motivated teacher who was born and raised Pittsburgh, PA.  My goal is to build up a teaching studio.  I enjoy working with students of all ages, whether they are 4 or 40. As a guitarist, I have been playing for 10 years and have earned 2 degrees in music, and have played in many bands and ensembles. As a bassist, I have been playing for about 8 years, and I currently hold endorsements from a bass manufacturer, cable manufacturer, and an amp modification company.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching guitar when I was in college, about 7 years ago. I have prepared students for college auditions at some of the best music schools in the country.I have a solid grasp on guitar and bass pedagogy, and I have developed a teaching method that has never failed so far.
METHODS USED
I have spent several years studying the Shearer Method of classical guitar, which is without question the most efficient, in-depth guitar method available.  I have tailored this method to work with electric guitar and bass guitar as well, and all of my students so far have thrived from it.  The very first thing I discuss with a student is proper posture: how to hold the guitar, pick/strike/strum the strings, and how to hold their left hand at the fretboard.  The most important thing is that the student does not cause any long-term, permanent damage to their hand by playing.  Shortly after that, I start to introduce right hand and left hand excercises, and coordination excercises. There are occasionally times where the student has to learn "dry" material, which I try to help them move past quickly by demonstrating to them how it's worth learning.  On the bright side, that occurs very rarely, so the process of learning is generally enjoyable.
LESSON STYLE
With younger students, I give them very simple goals from week to week during lessons, and I try to introduce them to different styles of music by having them listen to tons of it.  Once they start listening to music on their own, they start setting their own goals to learn the songs they like. I let older students set their own goals.  When a teenager or older comes to me to learn guitar or bass, they already have favorite bands and musicians, so they already know exactly what they want to learn.   Regardless of the age of the student, I try to make sure that they are eager to learn, which makes them willing to learn the "dry" material, and makes them fly through the fun stuff.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
