2011 - Louis Armstrong Award
I am an enthusiastic performer and teacher and I am excited about sharing my knowldge of music and the drums. In 2015, I graduated from Temple University with a bachelor's degree in jazz performance. I have enjoyed playing around the country with many accomplished musicians and I am passionate about sharing what I have learned with my students.
I began to teach when I was in high school. My peers would come over and I would guide their practice and help them with either technical or conceptual things that they were working on. I began to teach more formally when I was in college. I worked at R&M music studio in Langhorne, PA where I taught students young and old. In the meantime, I have taught group music lessons (drums and general music) and continue to be an avid student of the drums myself, always looking for helpful tips and exercises that I can pass on to my students.
First, I assess the student's strengths and weaknesses and ask them what specifically about their instrument interests them. I construct lessons so that the student has an opportunity to work on material that interests them and also things that I feel should be improved in order for them to reach their full potential. If the student already has a method book they are working from, I can guide their study of the book. If not, I can recommend one of the many books that have helped me or create exercises that address specific areas in which the student has room for improvement.
I like to have the student play for as much of the lesson as possible! My teaching style is productive but not too serious and I do everything I can to not be intimidating. I find that no one (myself included) can learn productively in a stressful environment so I like to keep my lessons fun and light hearted. I really do love teaching and I do everything I can so that the student looks forward to their lesson as much as I will!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
