Teaching music is my joy and passion to both children and adults. I have been teaching music for over 30 years in private and unified schools and feel the same excitment meeting and sharing my love for music as in my first day of teaching. I love performing music as well and have privilege playing for various events, including in hospitals, senior's homes, birthdays, weddings, corporate events, churches. I pride myself to be able to tailor each and every lesson to student's needs. I have been associated with company that provide lessons for students with limited incomes. Also, I am an experienced teacher for children with special needs and autism.
30 plus years is a long time for teaching, however this is only a beginning. An experienced teacher is not only the one who teaches , but becomes a mentor and a friend. I teach with humor, passion, using figure of speach, using every student's own life's experiences to convey musical idea. My students are encouraged to participate in yearly Recitals, Talent shows, Music Festivals, Competitions, to be involved with CM testing of my music organization MTAC. All of my students that took CM tests pass with flying colors! My most proud moment is when I hear that my students providing their musical talents to their communities and play piano creatively for their families and friends. Music is for Sharing!
I use Bastien, Alfred, Keith Snell method books. As well as Dozen a Day, Hannon, Scales, Chords and Arpeggios, I also use Bastien's Easy Piano Classics for most beginners, then Progress to more higher levels . I find out that learning Piano, without Theory , sight reading, the concepts are not clear, when there is an aha moment in Theory , students can right away apply it in thier practical form, when they play their music. There is more connections with a composer's idea when they know what kind of structure they are working on. Music is engineered just like a bridge or a building.
I love to hear from parents when they call me to say that their child is sick this week but he/she wants to come for a lesson or when children proudly displaying their daily practicing logs filled with lots more time that I asked for. Enthusiasm is contagious! I teach using traditional Classical Approach that is predominately was developed in Europe and Russia. I am a firm believer that combination of all methods, including Russian, European and American is the key to success. Everyone learns differently, not one method or style works the same. I love finding out what clicks for every student.
