Overview:
I am a recent graduate of Texas State University San Marcos this past May and just recently moved to Los Angeles to advance my music career as a Singer/Songwriter and performer. My degree is specifically in Music Education. One of the greatest joys I find in teaching is bringing students to their fullest potential and past what they may have thought they were capable of. My goal isn't to make you the next virtuoso (unless that's what you want we can make that happen!), but to make you a life long learner and lover of music. The habits of a musician are the habits of a successful person; never giving up, listening, trying your best, critical thinking, and so much more! The list is endless! The type of teacher I am described as is one who is full of energy, upbeat, positive, and someone who is able to get students to grasp and attempt concepts that may be considered too difficult for them by normal standards without students giving up or becoming discouraged. That is what I take pride in the most when it comes to me as a teacher.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching since I began being a music education major back in 2012. I am primarily a vocalist but I can also provide instruction to beginner to intermediate pianist as well as provide lessons in music theory. I very much believe that being educated with technique, history, and theory is the best way to have a wholistic understanding of music. I am flexible teaching all styles and genres and am interested in the goals of the musician first. Based of of your personal goals I will create what is needed to help you not only reach your goals but exceed them!
METHODS USED
My methods are tailored specifically to the needs of the student. Some students need a lot of structure, some students need more freedom and flexibility, some need more guidance. In general when teaching I try to always incorporate 3 modalities of learning (kinesthetic, auditory, and visual) either simultaneously or separately in order to ensure the students get the most out of what I'm teaching regardless of their learning style. I also am a firm believer of de-contextualizing and re-contextualizing information to make sure concepts that may seem to difficult for my students more accessible. I am constantly assessing
LESSON STYLE
Honesty, Empathy, Emotion, and Sensation Honesty:From me you will always receive the truth in the most supportive and encouraging way. Empathy: I have been where you have been just until recently and understand the struggles of being a student. Your feelings and thoughts are very important to me and the last thing you will feel is like I don't understand, I DO! Emotion: Music isn't simply notes on the page and sounds, it's so much more! Music takes bringing a part of you to the table and we will do that every chance we get! Sensation: Especially for vocalist our ENTIRE BODY is our instrument, therefore I frequently have us explore what is happening physically and mentally to teach and apply concepts. Most importantly, I approach all things from a place of passion. Passion keeps you going when your fuel tank is on empty and helps you to become one with whatever you are doing. Therefore I will speak, live, work, and teach with passion and impart that upon my students first and foremost because it is an important part of being a musician that isn't discussed much.
