My methods are non-traditional for some students and traditional for others. Each person learns differently and needs different methods to achieve their goals. I have used Essential Methods books, Jump Right In books, and others that I have found in my studies as a music teacher. I believe music is learned in many different ways, by ear, by reading, and by playing. We learn to talk by talking and being surrounded by those who talk. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument, focussing on right posture, grip and sound. For intermediate students there is more freedom. If there is a good understanding of how the fundamentals work, the student can share her / his preference with me. Since I teach all genres, there is a very broad palette to discuss. Whenever I have a good feeling with the student's preference, I'll come up with a system so we can start working on new material. Read More

I will present different methods and goals to each student and each lesson depending on their level, availability, and goals. If a student is a young beginner, the most important thing is simply to grow their love of music. For an intermediate adult, I will present new challenges to eliminate weaknesses and grow strengths that also still encourage fun. If a student is taking lessons to become a college or professional pianist, I will introduce repertoire, music theory, music history, and techniques that will be crucial information and skills to advance in the competitive world of piano. Instruments: Piano
I love music and I love teaching! I took piano lessons as a child, was in a band as a teenager, and began giving piano lessons in my 20's. I teach all styles of music, sight-reading, music theory and ear training. For those students more more interested in learning pop or jazz, I give special attention to chords and "lead sheet" playing. I have worked with many singers to teach them how to accompany themselves on piano. Read More
