I am a 25 year old guitarist who is excited to share my love of music, especially the guitar, to studients both young and old. In 2012, I graduated Ball State University with a Bachelors' of Music Degree in Music Technology. While in college I studied the classical guitar as well as jazz guitar but I also love rock n' roll, blues, metal, folk, and indie rock, almost anything with a good guitar lick. Teaching students and helping them reach their musical potential is the most fulfilling endeavor I know of.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching friends in high school and continue to teach both children and adults today. I give private lessons out of my small home studio as well as in their own homes, whichever the student prefers. Learning guitar is a worthwhile, sometimes difficult, and always fun hobby that anyone is capable of. I look forward to helping you achieve your goal of becoming a guitarist!
METHODS USED
Teaching methods will vary depending on the student's knowledge and ability but I do recommend that everyone learns to read music. For steel string players, I start with A Modern Method for Guitar by William Leavitt and add songs the student wants to learn. For classical guitarists, I start with Christopher Parkening's Guitar Method - Volume 1 and then progress onto Carcassi and Sor Studies with additional pieces. At the end of the day, it has to be fun!
LESSON STYLE
Learning is fun but learning guitar is even more fun! Getting students excited to play and practice is why I am here. I encourage my students to play as much as possible and help them by setting clear goals with challenging and fun songs. I believe that teaching is a two way street and that communication between us is important. Tell me if you want to learn a specific song or style and I'll tailor lessons towards your goals.
