As a musician I have been studying and practicing music for over fifteen years. I have been teaching voice students of varying abilities, interests and ranges for the last five, and piano for one year. In addition to holding a Bachelors degree in music and voice from Cal Lutheran University, I have also studied independently with professional singers, Angela Hicks, Jamie Vendera, and Heidi Valencia Vas. Additionally I have trained with acclaimed composer and recording artist Ludwig Tuman for several years with whom I have composed and recorded original songs. I offer lessons out of my home studio in Ventura, or in the client's residence upon request.
I believe singing enables us to express our deepest emotions, thoughts and desires. In my experience, the changes that occur when a person finds their voice, their unique sound, can be profound. Expression with music can open us up to hidden abilities that reach into all aspects of life. What I love about teaching is seeing student’s faces light up when they realize that they’re improving. Getting to know people and witnessing them develop and grow is one of my many joys of teaching. I generally work with younger and beginning students seeking to learn the fundamentals of music and voice although I welcome students of all backgrounds.
I offer beginning, intermediate and advanced voice lessons as well as beginning piano. I utilize speech level singing technique to help students expand their vocal range, improve tonality and develop an overall command of their voice. In addition to style and technique I offer coaching for live performance or recording. My philosophy is that the joy of singing is available to anyone willing to learn, and my passion is to encourage others to find that joy for themselves. My students range widely in age, experience, ability and interest. I use music scores, books, and various training tools along with personal one on one sessions.
Learning the language of music allows us to release our inner experiences and deepest, most genuine feelings and can be found at any age. It’s ok to make mistakes when learning how to sing or play an instrument and it is natural to feel shy or even scared. My hope is that students will feel safe enough to explore their love of music during our lessons and in doing so will discover that they have the courage to let their voice be heard. My goal is to support you on your path and encourage you to have fun.
