I feel that music is what ties all of us together. No matter where you go music is there. Getting a student to find their own voice through music is my ultimate goal. I remember what it was like to pick up an instrument for the first time, not knowing what to do with my fingers, not know anything about notes, chords, scales or theory. With the desire to play I began to study books, videos and live concerts. Through that study I've been able to play in live bands as well as record in professional studios.
Technically I began teaching about 20 years ago although teaching has always been a part of what I do. I teach, play live from time to time as well as record in various studios. Music is a major part of my day to day activities. Some of my music can be heard on Animal Planet, America's Next Top Model, Beverly Hills Pawn and Carfellas just to name a few. I encourage all students to play their instrument every day and long as possible. That is how each student finds their own voice and style with their instrument. I can prepare a student to play live as well as how to record in the studio.
Each student is different so I like to find out where the student is currently and where they would like to go. Then we craft a program to give them the tools to take them to where they want to go. There are so many tools and resources available today, with youtube and google, it's easy for a student to stay engaged. I always like to make sure the student understands how important learning the fundamentals are. With a firm grasp of the fundamentals the sky is the limit. Music is just like athletics, learn the basics then add your own flare to it.
I want the student to feel comfortable with and excited about the lesson plan. I find out what style the student leans toward and also encourage them to explore other styles. I've found that studying styles outside of what you normally listen to improves your playing greatly. I show students examples of playing different styles of music and how to incorporate that into finding your own style and voice. I show them how styles are not as different as they think. Whether it's blues, rock, pop or funk sometimes with little changes you can transition from one style to the next.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
