Overview:
I’m a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2005, I graduated from Southern University and A&M College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Performing for thousands of people in person and millions of people on television all over the world has been one of the greatest experiences of my life as a musician. Seeing a student go from shy to a confident performer is truly one of the joys of being a Private Music Educator. I am determined to help all my students break out of their shy shell and shine!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to November 2006 - to present. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for singing and playing the instrument. I’ve also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go along way in helping students enjoy music and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. When I see a student having fun during the lessons that lets me know I’m doing my job! I work with my students on being the best performer he or she can be and I encourage them to always stay motivated! I’m always looking to bring on new students!
METHODS USED
For beginning vocal students who are children, I start with Singing Lessons for Little Singers Very Young Beginners Series Level A. We cover Technique, Ear Training, Pedagogical Movement, Rhythm Training, Sight Training, Fun and Creative Movement, Performance. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce Singing Lessons for Little Singers A 3-in-1 Voice (compilation to meet children’s voice training needs), Ear-Training and Sight-Singing Method for Children. We cover Technique, Songs, Ear Training & Sight-Singing. With my Recorder students I teach the a basic method of learning to play the recorder and read music through the use of folk, classical and familiar songs Frm It’s Recorder Time.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By taking the time to find out what inspires a student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants, needs, and help prepare them for any upcoming recital performances. My teaching style is I teach to get results! I provide a great learning environment. I check completed work as soon as possible and review the corrected work with the students. I give out fun and educational work. I am very positive and encouraging. I make sure students clearly understand what they are expected to do. I pay attention to areas where the student is having difficulty and I spend extra time helping the student master these skills. After the students master certain levels with voice or recorder lessons I give out special certificate rewards so the completed work can be displayed.
