I'm a passionate and ambitious instructor who loves working one-on-one with students and sharing my love of music. In high school, I had the privilege of placing into TMEA All-State orchestras three consecutive years and earning the distinction of outstanding soloist in my district junior and senior year. I have played in various ensembles, including wind bands, orchestras, brass quintets, and trombone choirs. The Marcus High School Wind Symphony performed the finale concert at the 2012 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. I have also played the piano at church for three years, including weddings and funerals, and sing Lead in the Palo Duro Metro Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
I have taught high school English for two years, before which I taught ESL to adult learners and tutored college students one-on-one. This year, I started teaching private trombone lessons and hope to gain more clients. I am also preparing to take the EC-12 Music Certification exam with the hopes of becoming a band director at a small school. Although I am relatively new at teaching music, I have lots of experience in teaching other subjects and am a highly gifted musician on multiple instruments. Music is my passion, and more than anything, I want to inspire students to share in this passion.
For beginning trombone lessons, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and focus on fundamentals, such as long tones, lip slurs, and articulation. I include a mix of fun music of the student's choice and higher-level repertoire appropriate for band and solo performance. I reinforce note names and rhythm in every lesson to further develop proficiency on the instrument. For piano students, I use the Michael Aaron courses (children or adult as appropriate) and emphasize hand position and finger flexibility early on. I also stress the importance of playing with others to maintain motivation for playing.
I always try to implement a degree of student choice in each of my lessons, whether it be choice of music, order of repertoire, or playing solo or with me, the instructor. It is vital that students take charge of their own learning. I am also sure to acknowledge students' strengths as much as or more than their weaknesses, as recognition and reinforcement is a vital part of the teaching and learning process. I hold students to high standards, but I make sure that they are having fun--if not, it's time to do something else!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
