Overview:
I am a very patient, knowledgeable and experienced music instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education and a lifetime California state teaching credential. I also graduated from the Naval School of Music with top honors and I served in the Marine Corps as a bandsman playing the French Horn. I have taught music in many public, private and charter schools in California for over 30 years and am now retired. I also taught music in primary schools in Edinburgh, Scotland for five years. I am also an accomplished pianist and songwriter having won awards for song writing in the children's music category.
EXPERIENCE
"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime." As I help my students accomplish their musical goals in a fun, disciplined and fast paced way, I get great satisfaction watching them discover and develop their talents, skills and abilities. My hope is that my pupils will learn enough about music from me to be able to learn and play any new music of their choice independent of my help. Having taught music in public and private settings including public schools in Scotland over the past 30 years, helps me to be able to help my music students get the best music education possible.
METHODS USED
I like to get my beginning music students playing music right away. When any beginning new student leaves their first lesson, they are able to play a few songs with proper technique. This keeps the fun factor alive especially for younger beginning music students. For all of my music students no matter what age or skill level, I customize my music lessons for each one depending on their desired musical goals. I like to use common progressive music books that enable each student to gain the skills they need to perform the music they love. This includes a working knowledge of music theory, as well as understanding and using music terms, notes, rhythms, and key signatures. I believe the more my students love the music they are learning the more they will practice and the better musician they will become.
LESSON STYLE
I do everything that is possible in a music lesson to inspire each of my students to love music and want to learn more. I encourage and praise students frequently. Having fun at the music lesson and accomplishing certain musical goals usually makes students eager to learn more. Of course, each student progresses at his or her own pace but practice is essential for progress and keeps the music lessons fun and exciting. By trying to find out what inspires each student, I can successfully tailer my instruction to their wants and needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
