Overview:
My passion for music extends all the way back to the age of 10 when I first started Piano lessons. At the time, I had a great Piano teacher who was very patient, caring and overall a wonderful instructor who inspired me to become a Piano teacher one day. I love working with people and helping them achieve their goals; and the thought of sharing my passion with students and seeing them flourish into the type of musicians they would like to become sounds more like a privilege to me than a job. I am a firm believer that music has healing power and that studying it is such a wonderful tool for self-expression and is incredibly useful to a person's well-being, both cognitively and emotionally. I take pride in my great ability to teach and train others -- teaching has always been a passion of mine throughout my school and work years, and I am excited to combine my teaching talent with my passion for music to help students reach their fullest potential.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience began a couple of years ago when I started teaching my friends and colleagues how to play the Piano. I am encouraging and patient with my students and I carefully select the best exercises and approach to fit their learning style. I am mainly trained to play Classical music but I can also teach other desired genres as long as the students provide the sheet music. My students are encouraged to work on composing their original material so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I like to divide lessons into mainly 2 parts: The first part focuses on note-reading and fundamentals, while the second part focuses on getting the student to play songs they are interested in playing, either by helping them find a sheet music suitable for their level of ability, or by playing by ear. Students will almost always have an assignment to work on and prepare for the next lesson, as I find that this motivates the students to dedicate some time out of their day(s) for music.
LESSON STYLE
Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivating them to practice and continue to learn. I believe that learning should be a fun experience, and therefore, if a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals to meet other students who share similar interests which helps improve the learning experience. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I like to reward my students for their achievements as acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel students' desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
