Overview:

My guitar journey started when I first took lessons in 2007. I have since then become obsessed with the instrument and most of the things I do now revolve around music in one way or another. Along the way, I've joined several bands, performed live and recorded music. I've also started teaching in 2016 while in school for audio engineering and have kept going until I moved from France to Austin in September 2021. These days, I work as an audio engineer, helping fellow musicians find their sound in the studio but I'm resuming my guitar lessons as well.

EXPERIENCE

While I was learning about audio engineering in school in 2016, I began teaching private lessons to a couple of students. Throughout the following year, my student count grew to up to twenty with an average of fifteen lessons a week. Some of the people I've taught over the years had never properly held a guitar before I met them while others were looking to learn about specific techniques and genres. They came from all backgrounds and were as young as 8 and up to 70 years old. This experience taught me how to customize lessons to better suit different personalities.

METHODS USED

My method is about adapting to each student and giving them structure to facilitate the learning process. The starting point for a beginner is to learn how to place fingers on the strings, use the picking hand, basic chords, rhythm and simple riffs and melodies. From there, I place a heavy focus on teaching songs that highlight specific techniques and styles so that students naturally build a repertoire of tunes they enjoy while learning about new concepts and perfecting their technical skills. Two other areas that can be explored are music theory and improvisation if the student wishes to learn about them.

LESSON STYLE

I strongly believe that teaching should be done through sharing one's love of a particular subject, in this case, guitar and music. Throughout my school years, I've had many different teachers, good and bad, but the ones that I've learned from the most were the ones who spoke passionately about their subject. I try to convey my passion through the lessons and help students develop and nurture theirs. I strongly encourage any student to be proactive in the learning process and suggest songs or techniques they wish to be taught. My curriculum is always evolving with every new student !

Great guitar teacher!! Paul listens to his students and is very educational. The songs worked on allow you to progress quickly. Paul has a great musical culture and is an excellent guitarist who knows how to adapt his lessons according to the level of each one. If you are looking for a great teacher to have a good time and make you a better guitarist, don't hesitate to call on Paul!

Great teacher! I took lessons with him for two years as a complete beginner and Paul was very helpful with every struggles or questions I had as a beginner. Likewise it was very uplifting to take lessons with Paul as he has an interesting point of view and knowledge of music. If you're looking for a teacher and you're a beginner (I can't say for those who are intermediate player because I simply wasn't when I first started to take lessons) I highly recommend you this teacher !
