I’ve been teaching several days a week ,along with playing and producing full-time in the recording studio industry for just over 10 years. In which time I have taught hundreds of students of all ages and been privileged to play on many songs that have reached the top 40 in the national charts. Including two number one hits. I’ve played for recording artist from all over the world. Some as far away as Ireland, England, Israel, Canada and New Zealand. As a music teacher, I aim to perpetuate knowledge and inspire learning.
My music teaching experience dates back to when I was still in high school, teaching from home. Like most first time teachers I was just looking to make a little extra income on the side. But I soon found that I really enjoyed working with the students and seeing them progress as musicians. I was very fortunate to have had some great music teachers early on in my life that showed me you can have fun and learn a lot too! When I graduated high school I started doing recording session work in the local area but still found time to teach. I’ve since taught at some of the best music schools in North Carolina and also earned my BA in music education in 2012. In 2014 I opened up my private teaching studio. My focus is on giving my students the best music education in the most fun way possible. And helping my students reach their goals fast! I teach all ages, 1 to 100!
I want to put the student in control of their learning experience. Knowing how much you need to practice and what to practice gives you the clarity you need to stay focused. I achieve this via clearly defined goals and a plan to get you there. Most music students when asked what is the goal say “to be able to play my instrument”. That is not a clearly defined goal. To play “(name favorite song)” is an example of a clearly defined goal. The goals are clear and specific and are backed up with a tested and proven plan. There are 8 levels that I teach. The students have to complete a set of goals to move on to the next level. Each level has a check list. For instance,in guitar class my students will learn a set of 7 skills. Picking, Strumming, Chords, Arpeggios,Songs,Scales and Music Theory. Having a checklist with small attainable goals helps the student feel like they are progressing. And it also lets them see the progress they’ve made so far. I like teaching songs AND skills. Songs are fun but if you don’t understand what your playing then you wont get very far.
Fun, casual and relaxed. Its very hard for most students to learn anything when they are tense. I choose songs and skills that are going to interest that student. And everyone wants different things from their music lessons. Some want to just be able to play their favorite song and others want advanced chops and licks. I always work with the student to make sure they achieve there goals.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
