ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BS, United States Military Academy at West Point, American Politics
Awards:

2011 - Eagle Scout

Overview:
While I am new to the world of music education, I have been playing the trumpet for the 15 years. I was a member of my high school's marching band and jazz band. I continued to play through college in my school's spirit band. I graduated in May 2017 from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in American Politics with Honors. There were not many opportunities for expressive or creative arts at a military school, but the Spirit Band provided many opportunities for performance. We performed at various government agencies and the Pentagon.
EXPERIENCE
I am not a professional musician, nor do I have any experience teaching private lessons. I am an amateur trumpet player. Rooted in the Latin word "amator," "amateur" is a French word that means "lover of." In saying that I am an amateur trumpet player, I am saying that I love playing the trumpet. It is my hope to share that love and joy I have when playing to any student who takes lessons with me. If a student develops a love for the instrument, he/she will not dread my lessons or individual practice. I am looking forward to teaching you!
METHODS USED
For students who are beginners, I will start with Standard of Excellence Book 1 by Bruce Pearson. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals in Book 1, the student will move on to Standard of Excellence Book 2 while concurrently working on solo pieces of his/her choosing. Once the student has progressed through the skills taught in Book 2, the student will move on the Standard of Excellence Book 3 while continuing to grow his/her repertoire of solo pieces. The solo pieces in either case can be any style or genre of music so long as they are at the student's skill level or slightly above to provide a challenge. Playing music that is too easy does not progress a student's playing ability, and attempting music that is too challenging before being ready can be discouraging. For intermediate and above students, the lessons will be individually tailored to what they specifically want to learn or improve.
LESSON STYLE
I want my students to enjoy playing the trumpet as well as enjoy the process of learning to the trumpet. No two people will learn the same skill in the same way or at the same rate, which is okay. What matters is setting realistic goals and then implementing a plan to reach them. Progress begets progress, making the student excited for what is next. My only goal is to help the student achieve the playing ability that he/she wants to achieve. By understanding what excites the student, I can make sure that he/she enjoys the process of learning the instrument and continue to see progress.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
