Overview:
I have dedicated my life to studying and teaching Music, the most personal form of self expression. I began teaching one on one lessons with the vision of creating a supportive teaching space where students can work toward finding their inner voice and developing their musical expression. My piano and voice students range greatly in age, experience and their motivations to learn including natural born performers, shy beginners, recreational and professional musicians. I also coach professional public speakers on projection of voice. In all cases, I caringly create goal-oriented curriculums, tailored specifically to each student’s learning objectives. My centered and whole approach to singing, speaking and playing allows students to organically find their own voice through supported breath and air flow. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Toronto, and my Master’s Degree in Voice Performance from Manhattan School of Music. Recently, I completed four years of Psychotherapy Training from Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy NYC, which has guided and enhanced my approach to music coaching, particularly with students who wish to overcome performance anxiety.
EXPERIENCE
I created and administered the After School Music program at the Greenwich Village School P.S. 41, New York, NY for over 16 years. This revered enrichment music program ensured teachings were tailored to individual students’ needs for optimal learning, with strong emphases on building confidence, fluent music reading, and solo performance competency. I am a former faculty member of the Early Childhood Department at the Diller-Quaile School of Music, NYC. I also completed Dalcroze Comprehensive Musical Training at Lucy Moses School, Kaufman Center NYC and the Integrative Sound and Music Facilitator Training Program from the New York Open Center.
METHODS USED
PIANO Students will learn how to play piano in the context of one-on-one weekly sessions. Nora will support your learning of an applied instrument and incorporate theory and ear training following method books and appropriate supplemental materials. VOICE Master your voice and expand your vocal range in the context of one-on-one weekly sessions through specialized vocalizations, vocal and breathing exercises that strengthen and support air flow, emphasizing phrasing and bel canto technique. You will gain self-confidence and reach your greatest musical potential.
LESSON STYLE
My goal is to build music enthusiasts with a foundation that can span a lifetime. My centered and whole approach to singing, speaking and playing allows my students to organically find their own voice through supported breath and air flow.  I nurture each student’s ability to self-express while developing technical skill, music theory and musicality.
