Bachelor Degree: Manhattan School of Music
Hi! I’m an opera singer currently completing my Master’s degree at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. I’m passionate about singing and teaching my students to fully use their God-given talents in the most effective way, with the least amount of effort! I specialize in Classical-training and believe with a solid technique, you have the ability to sing in any genre/style. I’ve performed in recital, concert, and opera, and have worked/am working with world renowned professionals and am eager to impart their wisdom to my students! I completed my Bachelor’s degree in 2020 in Vocal Performance. I also teach beginning piano.
I started teaching piano and beginning strings when I was in high school. I’ve taught voice online and in person for the past 4 years. I encourage my students to put together their own recitals, concerts, and use their voices as a creative outlet. I teach all levels, beginner to advanced. For operatic training, I prefer to teach students age 13 and up . For Musical Theatre, Gospel, pop, R&B, choral music, country, etc. age 5+. My purpose as your teacher is to help find YOUR voice, using it in the most effective way, with the least amount of effort. Singing and learning how to sing our best is a gratifying, lifelong pursuit, and the discoveries I’ve made with students along the way have taught me just as much as them. Let’s have some fun singing!!
I have developed a specialized system of warm up’s tailored for each student and their genre of interest. These warmup’s help inform your singing and develop a solid foundation for a technique that will serve you and your instrument for years to come. For beginners and children ages 5-11, I focus a lot on “getting the voice out,” using your whole body as an instrument. This includes acting/song analysis (what does this song mean to YOU) and movement. Singing for the first time can be a scary endeavor, but I assure you it is the most fun/liberating thing! My students and I focus on strengthening vocal line (legato/breath control), vocal agility (coloratura/riffs/runs), elasticity/flexibility and musicality. Lessons start with 15-30 minute warm ups, then we go into singing the song you have prepared for that week. I can also assign pieces I think suit each student best after hearing you in our first lesson.
I talk to each student about their long term and short term goals. Nothing is impossible, but taking a slow, tried and true steady approach to achieve these goals will ensure sustainability and optimal vocal health. I believe in positive reinforcement, sharing what is working best for the student and encouraging them to build upon their strengths. I also believe in only singing things we absolutely love! When we love the things we sing, that passion is contagious. One of my favorite moments as a teacher was when a student couldn’t sing above a G5, but instead of getting frustrated and upset, we took this opportunity to become curious, figuring out where the tension was and how she could release. With a few vocal warm ups tailored for HER voice, she was able to easily sing up to an E6!
