Welcome! Thank you for visiting my page! I'm Nicole, a professional opera singer and passionate, dedicated voice teacher who loves to help students find their true voices and develop fine artistry in all types of musical genres. Originally from New York City. I grew up in Hillsborough, New Jersey, and graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. I recently completed a professional certificate program - the Artist Diploma in Early Music (Baroque Opera and Chamber Music) - at Cornish College of the Arts here in Seattle, WA. I have been lucky to perform across the US, in Italy and in Germany. Recent hilights include my Seattle debuts performing as Venus in John Blow’s "Venus and Adonis" with Cornish Opera Theater and in concert through Seattle Early Music Guild. I will be joining the cast of Amherst Early Music Festival's opera production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen in July 2013. I've had the amazing opportunity to perform in ensemble behind Kristin Chenoweth at the MET Opera, and in choral ensembles in New York at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Symphony Space, Carnegie Hall, with the NYC Ballet at the NY State Theater, and behind Brian Stokes Mitchell for a recent Actor's Equity Gala. As a Baroque specialist, I am member of Early Music America, and as a published lyricist, I am a member of ASCAP (the American Society for Composers, Authors, and Publishers).
As an active performer AND a dedicated teacher, I love to share my passions and knowledge with my students. Beginning while at Ithaca, I have taught over 8 years of individual one-on-one voice lessons with students of all ages and abilities. I formed my own voice studio in Hillsborough, NJ in 2009 and have recently relocated my studio to right here in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. My students have been nominated for NJ Paper Mill Playhouse's Rising Star Awards, have been accepted to pre-college musical theater programs on full scholarship, have earned multiple leading roles in high school musicals and plays, have performed major choral works at Carnegie Hall, and have released their own pop/rock album. Each one of my students receives special, individualized attention in regard to what they seek to accomplish and learn. Every lesson is an opportunity for immediate growth and discovery - a strong and fine-tuned balance between hard work, focus, fun, and creativity. Singing is an athletic art, combining the gifts of the mind, body, and spirit. My job is to empower you to be the best artist you can be and to truly enjoy the process of making music. I encourage all students to enter auditions, competitions, and to perform in recital. -I'm always looking to teach new students of all ages - I look forward to meeting and working with you!
Each student's lesson is crafted to their individual needs and goals. According to their musical interests and level, we will choose appropriate songs (and songs that they love). Initial topics and concepts addressed include developing a sense of self-awareness for singing, posture and alignment, breathing, learning how to open the throat, creating a deep sense of legato line (connectedness throughout the range), and following these, we will continue with more advanced techniques. I meet every student where they are at; I am supportive, nurturing, and also challenging. I want to help you grow and become the best you can be!
Voice lessons are also life lessons, that teach us about ourselves and about art. In this way, singing is an extension of speech and communication. The deeper we know what we want to communicate and how we want to communicate it, the greater our artistic output will be. I teach in a very holistic manner - where every part of you receives attention and care - nothing is left out. My instruction is taiolred to your needs and wants, while steering you in the direction of artistic independence and mastery, regardless of age or level. I look forward to having you join me!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
