Bachelor Degree: Brown University
Hi there everyone! I am an artist through and through, and doing any type of work through the medium of art is the most rewarding type of work I have found so far. I'm patient and encouraging, and I would like to guide as best I can a student's creative journey. We are all learning more about ourselves through creating. I have a variety of musical interests. As a cellist I mostly engage with classical music, but I just haven't done as much exploring in jazz/pop/hip-hop. I love to sing in all kinds of genres however, so this year I'm trying to combine my cello and my voice to see what interesting things might happen.
I grew up learning the cello at a non-profit program in my community, and how lucky I was! I mentored/volunteered there when I was a college student and I now teach with that some program. It has been a wonderful full circle experience. I have a lot of experience with both beginners and intermediate students - but I warmly welcome all levels as it only get more exciting! With regards to voice, I always sang growing up; in chorus, in musicals and in the car of course! I have experience with a wide range of styles so I'm sure we can find something you like to work together on.
It's important to tailor my approach to each student to be as effective as possible. I'm pretty flexible with my methods, but I try to create space for a wholesome understanding of the instrument as well as various musical styles. It has become increasingly important to me to encourage each student's independent creation as well. My relationship with my instrument was at first distant - I felt like the cello was something I had master before I could really call myself a musician. That simply isn't the case however. I want all my students to understand themselves as musicians before they even start to create. With me you will simply learn an arrangement of techniques and develop your creative palette to enhance your art.
I am lively and patient, but I want to push my students to grow (even if that means stretching them just a little bit!) I value technique as a means to expression so I do focus on sound projection and quality of tone right from the beginning. There are some basic exercises that I will always return to such as scales and rhythm exercises to develop bow control. For voice I would use a lot of breathing exercises to increase awareness of how we use our breath so that we can access and value our control.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
