MM, University of Pennsylvania, Guitar Performance
I am a guitarist and composer and just moved to New York from Philadelphia. I teach as an official guitar instructor at the University of Pennsylvania and work as a freelance musician in both cities. I also compose original music and have scored several short films and documentaries. I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and I listen to and play a very broad range of styles, from rock, pop, classical and jazz to Middle Eastern music.
I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and I have been playing and teaching professionally for 5 years. Music is my life, and I spend a majority of every day practicing, playing, teaching and listening to music.
My teaching is fairly heavy on music theory. I try to get my students to really understand how music works. I usually will ask a student if there is any particular song that they want to work towards learning, and direct lessons towards that, but I ultimately want my students to be able to learn new material easily on their own, improvise and pick music out easily by ear.
I am a very relaxed and non-judgemental teacher. I set the pace according to the student, and usually tailor classes towards where a student wants to go. I tend to focus less on speed and technique, which I find can only be learned through practice, and more on theory and ear training, which are harder to learn without the teacher there.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
