University of Florida, B.M.E.
I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education and continue to work on my Master's Degree in the same field.
I have taught in the public school system for 17 years. I have taught every instrument except strings
. My principal instrument is French Horn and I have extensive playing with Trumpet and Baritone. As a brass specialist, I can teach all brass to an advanced level.
My primary instrument for woodwinds is Oboe and Clarinet. Sax and Flute would be considered my secondary expertises.
I started playing Trumpet in Middle School then played both trumpet and French Horn in my High School band. I auditioned for the University of Florida on French Horn, and received a scholarship.
I played with Santa Fe College Community Band. I was in the UF Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Marching Band.
I have recorded with Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Red Rock Orchestra in New Mexico.
I have given clinics and lessons to High School and Middle School students in; FL, NC, SC, and Alabama.

Woodwinds - 17 years

For Beginners, I start with Sound Innovations Book 1 and have a strong emphasis on fundamental sound and posture. I do give theory worksheets for them to work on that are very structured and guided so when at home, the parents can assist if needed.
For Intermediate, the student and I will start exploring solo literature and methods that will increase their ability. We will also do more Duet methods, as this helps the learner to see how their part interacts with others.
For Advanced, heavy emphasis will be placed on methods and literature that will lead to successful auditions and performances.
I am a positive motivator with high demand on my students. I will push the student, however it is ultimately up to the student to decided their level of engagement.
My students are told my expectations for practice from the first lesson. We will go over how to practice at every lesson so they understand the process. Each student will be given an outline of what to practice and they set their schedule to follow through.
The goal is to have each student prepared for a successful lesson upon arrival. If the skills have not been met we will back track to make sure there is understanding and achievement.
Parents are asked to positively reinforce the child when practicing. Negativity or coercion always leads to negative outcomes later on.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
