BM, Texas A&M University - Commerce, Music
I have a classical background with percussion training. Now I am a few years out of college, ready to pass on my knowledge to eager students ready to learn. I have taught off and on for the past four years, with my students being anywhere from 6 to 60. I started privately with only one student, and that grew to several at the same time. I then started teaching at Guitar Center and my teaching career really took off. I hope to grow my clientele and build a studio of my own so I can one day teach from home.
My love of teaching comes directly from my passion for music. I have been playing music regularly since I was 12 and I haven't slowed down a beat ever since. I have played in several bands/groups throughout my musical career. I now play regularly in the worship band at my church, so that keeps my passion growing. I’ve always wanted to teach professionally so I can pass on my knowledge of music to other people. Many people think drummers aren't musicians, but I am out to change that stigma.
I enjoy using a method of Suzuki method for drums. I start the student off with a very basic drum beat, gradually moving on to more advanced drum beats. With an even mix of reading sheet music and playing drum beats, I work in little bits of technique. If the student is eager enough, I encourage them to play to a song. I have been planning on creating my own lesson plans for students to take home to use as supplemental materials. Also part of that plan is developing lesson plans for other teachers to use for their teaching as well.
I approach teaching differently for each student that I teach. I start each student by assessing where they are at musically, focusing on technique first. If technique is lacking, I’ll work that in while we move on to practicing basic drum beats. Moving at a pace comfortable to the student, I introduce more advanced drum beats and styles. Ultimately, the student will hopefully be able to play a song on their own and read basic sheet music. Any additional skills are up to the student to request for me to work on with them.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
