Overview:

I am a dedicated teacher and musician. I have been classically trained in piano and have been singing in competitive and travel ensembles since I was 10 years old. My passion for music drives me to put forth my best effort to ensure the goals of my clients are reached with hard work, homework, and team work. Classical voice is my passion and I love to sing in harmony and blend tone, however I am very flexible in my skill set and am able to adjust to my client's needs and goals. My listening skills allow me to work will all genres, and all vocal types. In university, I had the opportunities to travel with vocal ensemble and choirs throughout the US and Europe. A 2006 Europe Choir Tour included travel to Poland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, Scotland, and Ireland, to name a few. In each country, we focused on repertoire in the language of the locals, a unique and rewarding experience. Our ensemble was awarded the Grand Prix (1st place) award at a choir competition in Poland. I have recently been accepted as a member of the Pacific Chorale, a professional chorale housed at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts in Costa Mesa, CA. I have also just made it to the final round of the annual Surf City's Got Talent Show at the weekly Huntington Beach Surf City Nights Fair.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching beginner to intermediate piano and voice for five years. I am very proud of one of my private voice students was recently accepted into the Orange County School for the Arts Vocal Conservatory, a highly competitive program with a daunting audition process. My goal with my students is to have fun and to relate to the music, to find what each piece means to them, and to translate their intentions to their audience. I strive to encourage my students in self-confidence, quick-thinking, multitasking, and self-control, as these traits are subconsciously and inadvertently enhanced through musical instruction and performance. These are skills that will help any person to be stronger and more ready for the real world, whether in professional meetings, presentations, or just in personal/social settings. I always look for and post events and encourage my students to attend local open mic nights, competitions, and auditions, to enhance their experience and put themselves in challenging situations to grow as musicians. I always try to attend my students' performances and want to support them 100% in their endeavors.

METHODS USED

I love to get to know my students first, and usually begin lessons in this light. I am flexible on curriculum and like to have an open mind on which elements I teach, in what order, and through what medium. I usually use Alfred's curriculum, but also have a library of books and references that I use as needed depending on my students' needs. Also, posture and self-awareness are always foundations taught at the beginning and throughout the client experience. For adults, I am flexible and, again, open minded on my approach, as needs may be more specific and unique.

LESSON STYLE

I work with each student as an individual. Using their personality, likes/dislikes, etc., I am able to give them the best experience toward reaching their goal. I keep in open communication with parents and use assignment books to write down what was reviewed in class and what is expected to be prepared for the following class. It is important to include homework and to encourage students to practice what was learned in class. I like to do this my allowing students to apply vocal techniques, for example, to a song on the radio, or any song they like. That allows them to implement the technique learned while still having fun and being engaged in the learning process.
