I am a conservatory trained musician. I began piano lessons at 5 years old. Cello lessons at 7 years old. Organ lessons at 10 years old and guitar lessons at 12 years old. My voice training began in 6th grade and it was during high school that I began the specialized training in classical and operatic singing. I attended the High School Music Honors program held at the University of Minnesota every summer from 9th to 11th grade. In my twenties I made my operatic debut in NYC. I have then gone on to perform in many different forms.
I began teaching private lessons when I was twenty years old. I began teaching music in Catholic schools when I was 22 years old. I continued and have been teaching both in religious schools and public and giving private lessons for thirty-five years now. I especially love giving private lessons because you have an opportunity to meet the student at the level they currently are and helping them achieve their goals. It is then easier to know how to create a lesson plan that will work for them especially.
I teach in a formal manner using method books and classic training techniques. I aim to make each student feel comfortable in their own abilities at any level. I try to take the mystery out of whatever instrument I am teaching. I also give them the history of the instrument and why we should approach it in a particular manner. For instance I will not just teach the student how to play the piano, guitar or cello, but how to care for the instrument and what is required to maintain it; tuning, replacement parts, etc.
I aim to be a teacher that a student feels comfortable with and wants to learn from. I do not wish to be seen as a strict teacher, but one that has hold the student to the best level that they can achieve. I give the student a lesson plan that can suit their particular schedule. I also tell them what I think will help them to master and progress on the instrument. It is important for me to understand what the student is looking to achieve so that I can help them meet those goals and even surpass them!
I've only been taking lessons a few weeks but it's been great! I am loving getting back into music again after many years away, and my teacher has been awesome and patient and explains everything really well.
Ms. Margaret is a phenomenal teacher. She is very caring, professional, talented and possesses wonderful pedagogy. My kids have learned to respect her and enjoy playing their instruments!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
