I am a higly qualified and enthusiastic instructor who is equally comfortable working with children and adults. I graduated from University of Houston with BA in history and immediately began to teach in public schools. I have taught 2nd and 3rd grade, as well as social studies for middle and high schools. I have also been a professional musician for over 5 years having toured the country several times, playing regular gigs, and doing recording sessions.
My teaching experience has been long and diverse. I have been teaching music lessons since I was a college student, but upon graduating, I immediately landed a job at a private elementary school where I taught 2nd and 3rd grades and a music class. Following that, I taught social studies at a George I. Sanchez, a charter middle school based in Houston, TX and then subsequently at Hope Academy Charter School and Lee High School, both being high schools in the Houston area. During my last year, I recieved an opportunity to become a full-time musician, so I returned to giving freelance private lessons as well as working for a music education non-profit organization that serviced low-income children in the Houston area. Teaching has been part of my life for quite some time now and I hope to continue with you!
As far as curriculm is concerned, my methods differ depending on each particular student because each student is on a different level when they begin lessons with me. For young students who are beginners, I typically start with Hal Leonard's or Berklee School of Music instruction materials specifically for kids, which teach how to read notation, proper technique and provide a stong foundation to build upon. For adults, or more experienced children, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun.
My teaching style is based upon tried and true methods of education that I excelled at while working in public schools. I make individual assesments of each student, deveop a long-term curriculum based on this assessment, and realistically set goals and objectives that will ensure the students progression. By working with parents and staying in close communication with students, we can track and insure student progess. Additionally, I have high expectations of all my students to excel. If students know what is expected of them by teachers and parents, then they are more likely to care and try hard to improve.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
