B.A. Berklee College of Music, Music Business (Principle Instrument Voice)
I am a classically trained vocalist and have been singing since I was a toddler. My training in sight-reading and ear training began in elementary school, and my vocal training began in middle school. Though I studied Music Business on a partial scholarship at the prestigous Berklee College of Music in Boston, the techniques that I was taught all those years becam very easy to explain and thus I began teaching upon moving to Atlanta 8 years ago. I currently perform throughout the world and I am the vocal director for one of the top corporate bands in The Southeast, where we have had the privilege of performing in cities including Cabo and Riviera Maya, Mexico; Anguilla, The Bahamas, and most recently, Doha, Qatar. I have performed in front of Donald Trump, for The Houston Rockets, and have performed on the same stages with opening acts Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, and next February, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Pitbull. I love teaching and sharing real-world experience and wisdom with my students if they need it.
I have about 5 years of teachng experience but a lifetime of training and performance experience. Teaching brings me joy becuase I believe it is important that the gifts we are given are passed down and not used selfishly. I really love helping my students and seeing their progress, but it brings me greater joy when they see and hear the growth within themselves!
I like to start with the basics of breathing. Using the voice as an insturment, it is important that their "engine"- the energy behind what makes the voice work, is working efficiently. Without proper breath control it is difficult to grow the voice in the direction that one wants. After my students show an understanding of how proper breathing works we will begin to address vocal placement, for example, if there is a more nasal tone, getting the sound out of the nose and into the "mask", where the voice realy rings. All of the basics of proper posture are addressed early on, and vocal exercises are introduced based on the students' needs. From there we will choose repetoire, also based on the goals of the students and/or gaurdian. If the student is more interested in classical training I will introduce the Vaccai, which is an excellent practice book for students, developing pronounciation, breath control, and the students ear. Everything is tailored to the needs of the student.
I approach teaching in a way that is easily understandable to my students. As the voice is a very unique instrument, in which it is not as easy as showing someone how to press a knob or a key, I teaching using metaphors that are easy to understand. I am a classically trained vocalist with experience singing mulitple genres, and because I use my instrument weekly, performing throughout the country, I am always finding analogies and real-world experiences that help with what I share with my students. I love when my students reach an epiphany, when something clicks and they can apply the metaphors and analogies to their own uniqe instrument!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
