I've had a passion for music ever since I started playing the flute at seven years old. I have degrees in Flute Performance from The Eastman School of Music and The Colburn School. I actively perform in the DC area, including recent performances with the Baltimore Symphony and the National Symphony. In addition, I love performing as a soloist and have won numerous national solo competitions.
I have been teaching flute for seven years and absolutely love it! I started teaching while in my undergraduate years, and since then I have taught students from all levels and ages--including as young as 7 years old to adults.
For absolute beginners, I typically start with some of my own written exercises paired with various books, such as Trevor Wye's "Beginning Flute." At more advanced levels, I encourage my students to work with a program called SmartMusic. SmartMusic has a vast collection of music with accompaniment and other practicing activites. SmartMusic also aids in developing aural skills and it's variety ensures that my students rarely get bored!
My teaching style centers around a solid foundation of flute technique paired with instilling a love and appreciation for music. I agree with the famous flutist Pierre Rampal who said: “The flute is just a pipe, like a paintbrush is to an artist. Why would anyone think of a paintbrush when looking at a painting?” My goal is to help my sudents play with ease so that the music sounds effortless. I can teach in my home studio or can come to you depending on your location. I also teach online lessons.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
