Overview:
I have loved music since the beginning. Growing up in a musical family allowed me to learn various music skills even before starting an instrument. Throughout junior high and high school I auditioned for and joined the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra in Orange County, California as well as various annual honor orchestras throughout the sate of California. In 2003, I became concert mistress of Vanguard University's Concert Orchestra for 5 years and performed solo and ensemble works as the first violinist during that time, as well as touring China and South Korea to perform as principle violinist with Vanguard University. Since then, I have had the opportunity to play with various orchestras including the Orange County Symphony.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private violin lessons after graduating college, in 2008. I absolutely love the violin and the beautiful sound that it creates. My goal in teaching is to share that passion with others and together overcome the challenges of learning a new instrument. I have experience in orchestra, solo performance and competitions, church, and various gigs.
METHODS USED
The lesson will begin with scales and etudes, and then we will work on a solo piece during the last half of the lesson. Music theory will be incorporated throughout the lessons according to individual student need. I believe it is important to set a strong and solid foundation in order to produce independence in future practice and performance. If the student wants to learn a certain music piece or style, I am open to incorporating that into the lesson as well. I am passionate about teaching beginners in the traditional method instead of the Suzuki or other various methods. I may, however, use the Suzuki books as a resource for solo pieces. FIRST LESSON: For the first lesson I enjoy learning the student's goals and interests. If the student does not have prior experience, I introduce the student to the parts of the violin, posture and positioning, and basic music theory (reading notes, rhythm, etc). If the student does have some experience, I will listen to any music they have already learned, and from there we will pick piees that will provide further improvement in musicality, technique, and skill.
LESSON STYLE
Every student presents with a unique learning style. I believe that in order to meet those individual needs and abilities it is important for me to match and incorporate different teaching style for each student. I teach at the students own pace and love to create a relaxed and fun environment! As learning a new instrument can be difficult at times I am very patient yet firm when needed, and believe that practicing outside of lessons is important in order to improve.
