Advanced Certificate in Performance, University of Toronto, Trumpet Performance
BM, University of Toronto, Trumpet Performance
I'm a trumpet player and educator who recently moved to the Los Angeles area. Previously, I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I played with groups such as the Bach Ensemble of Edinburgh, the Scottish Sinfonia, New Edinburgh Orchestra, and many more. I'm a native Canadian who has spent 3 seasons with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and 2 seasons with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and I've also performed in Canada with the Canadian Brass, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Etobicoke Philharmonic, King's College Orchestra, and many more organizations. I received a Bachelor's Degree and an Advanced Certificate in Performance from the University of Toronto.
I began teaching in my early university days, and since then I've gained experience in numerous different teaching environments. I have taught privately with young beginners, high school aged students, and adults. I have also been called upon many times as a coach for trumpet sections at middle schools, high schools, and have led university ensemble brass sectionals on multiple occasions. I've worked with students from all experience levels, including those who are starting out and those who are getting back into music as adults after a long absence.
I try to customize lessons to each specific student, based on not just their experience level but also what kind of interests they have and what kind of music they want to play. Fundamentally I teach from several major instructions books like the Arban method, Schlossberg method, Clarke studies, Charlier studies, and Jacobs. I introduce solo repertoire and orchestral repertoire based on the student's level and interest in the material. I can tailor lessons from the basic fundamentals to university audition preparation.
My style is based on open lines of communication between myself and student, because I truly want to help the student discover their own goals and appreciations of the instrument. Therefore, I'm very open to methods and repertoire as chosen by the student. I always want to know why the student loves playing the instrument! To me, it's the love of the instrument and music itself that drives great learning, so I'm always talking and listening and figuring out exactly what drives the student so that I can tailor a custom made experience.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
