BA, Luther College, Music, magna cum laude
I'm a dedicated and passionate instructor who loves sharing the joy of music with students. I graduated, magna cum laude, from Luther College with a BA in Music. During my time at Luther I studied music education, vocal performance, piano, and Celtic harp. I perform and teach throughout the Los Angeles area.
My teaching career began when I was named soprano section leader of my high school choir. I ran rehearsals once a week and often gave private coachings during the lunch hour. I continued teaching voice, piano, and Celtic harp on and off throughout college. I encourage my students to pick songs they are interested in playing or singing so they have an investment in the music they create.
I create custom lessons plans for each of my students, both on piano and voice. For piano, we spend the first few lessons getting to know the instrument before moving on to repertoire. For voice, we learn the basics of breath and vowel, often incorporating Alexander and Andover/Body Mapping techniques. I teach music as a language, focusing on both reading notes and learning by ear. As students progress in lessons, they learn to read music, improvise, and arrange their own songs all while having a good time!
My goal as a teacher is for each student to feel at home with their music. Some students will want to make music their career - great! Some just want an hour to themselves once a week to nurture their creative spirit - fantastic! If there's a song you've always wanted to learn - bring it in, even if it's beyond your current skill level. I'll tailor your lessons to help you meet your goals. Whether you are a youngster just starting out, or a soccer mom getting back into music, I'll meet you where you are and we can begin the journey together.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
