Born in Toronto, Canada, Josie had her first piano lesson at the tender age of 3. That was the start of her lifelong passion not only for music, but for teaching, learning, and creativity. She took private piano lessons until university, where she chose to study music. Although her major was in classical piano performance, Josie also studied ragtime, blues, and jazz piano along with improvisation and extensive music theory. Not content with solely learning the piano, she also dabbled in tabla, gamelan, violin, and guitar. After relocating to Seattle in the fall of 2011, Josie is excited to be living in a new city and expanding her student base here.
Josie has over 10 years experience teaching both in a music school and at home. She has taught all ages and levels privately and in a group setting. Along with teaching, Josie has made several appearances as a solo pianist for weddings, charity concerts, and other events. Josie has also worked as an accompanist to numerous vocalists and instrumentalists for exams, auditions, and professional performances.
For beginners of all ages Josie prefers the Faber & Faber “Piano Adventure Series”, and for more advanced students, Josie uses the Royal Conservatory of Music “Celebration Series” along with the accompanying technique and theory methods. That said however, Josie realizes every single student is unique in their needs, interests, and learning styles. Josie is extremely flexible and is able to create well-balanced lessons incorporating and catering to the distinct goals of each student. Along with classical methods, Josie is able and willing to teach blues, ragtime, jazz, and other popular styles of piano playing. Her breadth of experience allows her to adapt to the needs of her students, giving them a well-rounded musical education. Whatever style and method the student chooses to learn, every lesson will contain some technique, theory, ear training, sight-reading and playing. Weekly, monthly, and yearly goals are set to ensure consistent progress.
Josie strives to bring her enthusiasm, love of music, and love of people to each and every lesson by making lessons fun and approachable, while still giving students the necessary technical and theoretical background. Josie’s goal is not only to create well-balanced musicians, but to foster in her students a life-long love and appreciation for music.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
