Overview:
I am a seasoned bass player and music business professional educated at Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2006. I played full time and maintained lessons until continuing my education of the bass guitar into how to build them graduating from Summit School of Guitar Building and Repair 3 hours north of Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Returing to California I worked for the music products industry designing high performance bass equipment for a few years. During that time I never stopped performing with artists like Marcus Miller, Grant Ferguson, 40 Degree's North, Sonora Jazz Experience, etc and bands local to California like Sinizen, Black Salt tone, Groove Newton, Bob Gail Agency (weddings). I have been selectively teaching students since 2006 but am now focusing more on education and will be the music teacher at a Church in Costa Mesa in Fall of 2015.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching bass guitar before I graduated to other students not only at my music college but surrounding colleges in Boston.  I come from an educated background with private instructors for Piano in diapers (yea asian parent stereotype) to Alto Sax in 4th grade, electric bass in 9th, Guitar in 9th with all having private instruction and school curriculum standard. I have been professionally teaching since 2006 carrying 6-10 students from ages 12 - 68.  I have had complete beginers to high school jazz band elite focusing on auditions to retired folks looking to make an old talent new again.
METHODS USED
For beginning students I focus a lot on rhythm and ear training to build the greatest foundation of being able to hear if timing is right or wrong. I too use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at the begginning but will have students write down techniques and excercises so they memorize them. Once the student is at an intermediate level and can play whole songs with more than two techniques they become eligible for recital performance. In the intermediate level students learn more styles for songs and jazz harmony will be introduced. At the advanced level my students can play in a band and both bring in material to learn as well as learning recorded solos. Students will learn advanced techniqes, soloing and how to play when recording. Lesson recordings will be provided to critque students progress.
LESSON STYLE
I tailor each lesson plan for each students individual needs and goals based on the initial lesson and established intent. I have found that most students fall into three catagories: 1, I am to be an extension of the school teacher -  following curriculum to the T applying additional knowledge and information to support an existing lesson plan. 2, I am to be the hobbyist's instructor - Its about learning and having fun where specific techniques are focused on and focusing more on learning songs outside of any school curriculum. 3, where I am the music instructor in your life - where I teach harmony, ear training, technique, performance, and rhythymic styles. Of course there may be a mix of the styles that may be adapted for your needs.
