Currently a member of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Greenwhich Village Community Orchestra. Also a part of the NYU Community Orchestra.

Overview:
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. I've always been inspired by my music teachers, and hope to continue to spread inspiration by teaching. I've studied with world-class violinists, including Dr. Chin Kim, Emily Faxon-Gallo, and Dr. Theodore Arm for 14 years, and I now work as a professional orchestral musician while studying full time as a Masters student at NYU. I have 6 years of experience in violin instruction. My favorite performances include the musical On the Town, a wedding where I got to play Viva La Vida for the bride as she walked down the aisle, and a 24 hour Bach festival I had the privilege of performing in as a high school student.
EXPERIENCE
I began 'tutoring' students in violin when I was 16, and recently began to teach more comprehensively. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help them progress and gain passion for the instrument. My pedagogical style uses classical music as the technical focus, and explores different cultural forms of music to foster creativity, deep listening skills, and multiculturalism. I encourage my students to join community and/or youth orchestras to gain experience playing with others. Most of all, my instruction centers around fun, empathy and genuine enjoyment of music.
METHODS USED
For young beginners, I sometimes use Adventures in Violinland. Otherwise I use the Suzuki method until students become moderately advanced. For adults, I try and find what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Each student gets a workbook that they bring every week and that we work on together, so they can refer to it later. Additionally, I listen to a lot of music, (not even specifically violin music!) with my students, and talk to them about what music means to us, and why it's so important.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by rewarding students every time they approach or learn a new skill, and help them set realistic goals about their progress related to the amount that they practice. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes them eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires my students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
