Overview:
I am a very passionate guitar and bass instructor who strives and gives his best to help my students achieve their goals. I graduated from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. I was never a prodigy by any stretch of the imagination when I first started playing guitar in 2006, so I can always remember the struggles of starting out. My experience as a professional musician since 2009 to the present has gifted me with some invaluable lessons that I am always happy and willing to pass along with my students.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching beginning guitar lessons to friends and classmates in high school. Ever since I picked up the guitar, I knew it was something that I wanted to pursue professionally because of the joy that it brought me. Being able to share that with other people is something I am very passionate about. I continued teaching beginning guitar and advanced jazz harmony to other guitarists in the music program to help pay tuition in college at USC. I taught at Music and Arts in Redmond during the summer after finishing college before moving to the Bothell store within the same organization.
METHODS USED
It's very important for beginning students to build a solid foundation, proficiency, and technique. I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1 as supplemental material for my beginning guitar students and the Hal Leonard Bass Method Book 1 for the same purpose for my bass guitar students. For intermediate and advanced students, we will focus on fretboard knowledge, advanced chord voicings, soloing techniques, rhythm guitar techniques, and overarching approaches to playing contemporary music that involves improvisation.
LESSON STYLE
Every student has different learning styles and my job as a teacher is to find what learning style each student possesses and use that as a vehicle for efficiency. This is important so students can have a much smoother transition into the guitar or bass guitar and be able to absorb information quicker. I will personalize lesson plans after the first few lessons in the beginner phase to tailor their music goals while also helping build their technical foundation. My lesson plans will have specific goals and assignments for each week. The beauty in music is that there is always room for improvement and something new to learn no matter what level someone is at.
