I have a passion for working and teaching students. I truly feel that music saves lives, and fills them with a sense of peace, calmness and contentment that cannot be compared. I truly enjoy sharing the gift that is music with my students. I graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2000, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (with a concentration in piano and a minor concentration in alto saxophone). I have performed in front of audiences for over 30 years. I have also been a public school music teacher for over 16 years.
My teaching experience began at the age of 14 years old. I was in charge of my youth choir and taught myself to play music by ear, all singing parts and the drummer that played with me. I began teaching music classes at the age of 22 years old. I taught elementary and middle aged students songs, music theory and music appreciation for all genres. I began teaching private music lessons around the age of 26 years old (about 15 years ago). I've taught students as young as 6 years old up through adulthood. I teach most genres.....from Classical, to Gospel, to Pop, to Jazz, to country and the list goes on. I encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals so that performing will be a skill that my students' possess. When my students begin composing their own music, I feel as if they possess their own love for music. It is a true joy to be a musician and to teach music.
For beginning students who are children, as young as 6 years old, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Alfred Music Series. For students that are teenagers and adults, it typically depends on their interests and their goals. I introduce solo repertoire music that is appropriate for the level the student is on and also that is in the genre the student is interested in. I believe in developing a student's ability to play things they hear by ear, as well as learning to read written music.
What drives each lesson is my desire to bring out the best in each individual student. I want my student to see his or her own talent and to love it, so therefore, each student will develop at their own pace and in their own way. I acknowledge accomplishments and set realistic goals for each student. I like to fuel the fire that's inside and use that fire to help keep the student's focus and interests burning. Loving music will take the student far and protecting that love is a big deal to me.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
