Overview:
Currently a graduate student at NYU for music composition and concentration on piano performance. I reside in Jersey City, Grove St. and serve both New Jersey and Manhattan area. Piano lovers, or composers, of all levels are welcome! I mix my lessons with solid technical training, basic music theory fit for any musician, and applying those to play your favorite tunes. I may expect a bit more from you than others, but that is because I want you to become a true musician-- I believe being a real musician means having both a solid technical foundation and the emotional lexicon to be able to play any piece your heart desires without being limited by out-of-shape fingers. In order for your heart to fully express itself, your body must first do its justice! And as you continue down this path, one day suddenly you will find yourself playing the piece you could have only listened to. You will also discover new kinds of music that makes you wonder why you didn't love it before. Join me in our musical journey to play through the highs & lows, the glamour & depth of the greatest medium created.
EXPERIENCE
I started playing piano at the age of 7 and violin at 10. After attending Manhattan School of Music precollege, I entered New York University as a music composition and piano performance double major, where I encountered piano genres of all kinds. College was where I first began tutoring piano to my peers along with music theory lessons. Currently I am pursuing a masters in music while teaching children in my area, the youngest being a 5 year old and the eldest a college student. Though my background is in classical, during my years in New York I have gained a love for Jazz as well. But for any genre, I believe a solid technical foundation is key.
METHODS USED
I follow the Alfred's method for most beginners as it has served well for all of my students and what I grew up on as well. Once the basics are learnt, we go into Hanon and Czerny for setting the technical fundamentals for any pianist, and mix it in with some Bach inventions, classical sonatas, or any fun piece you would like to play. From here on you will be able to play some recital level pieces for the classical pianist, or branch out to any genre you'd like. For casual pianists, we can go from learning the Alfred's basics, straight to playing your favorite tunes!
LESSON STYLE
I always start with a solid technical foundation so that later on you will be able to play any song you desire without being limited by your unfit fingers! They say practice makes perfect, but I believe perfect practice makes perfect, meaning even if you practice once, you have to strive to intentionally play it the way you want it to ultimately sound. Once the basics are set, you can focus more on fully expressing your emotions with the keys without being hindered. Consider me to be your fingers' personal fitness trainer, where I will guide you through your exercises & forms, and soon enough you will be able to run a scale double time or play any piece you want to your heart's content.
