Overview:
Energetic, enthusiastic teacher with over 13 years performance experience and 10 years as a private lesson instructor in violin, viola, voice and piano. Motivated by the belief that all children can foster a love of music and learning in the proper environment. I am a violin, viola, voice and piano teacher in Playa del Rey, CA. I also teach Introduction to Music classes for young children, designed to be taken with a parent. Your child will be introduced to singing, piano, and violin as well as rhythm and reading music through games and activities. Voice lessons include basic piano/keyboard skills with music theory, and all of my lessons incorporate music history, sight-reading, and ear-training.
EXPERIENCE
I have over 13 years of performance experience as a violinist and violist. I attended performing arts high school in MD, then attended Ithaca College for Viola Performance and Music Education where I also studied piano and voice. At the Ithaca College Suzuki Institute, I gained a great deal of experience working with smaller children to create a fun and productive environment. Students feel very proud of their accomplishments and learn more quickly by being relaxed rather than nervous or anxious about making a mistake. I have had the opportunity to perform with orchestras in Moscow, Russia and in Austria as well as many states in North America. Most recently, I performed at the Lincoln Center in NYC. I love to play chamber music, especially in string quartets, but my true passion is teacing! I will prepare you for all-state/all-county auditions, college/conservatory auditions and guarantee your child will move up in the school orchestra this fall. We will work together to analyze individual strengths in focus and learning, to ensure that each student experiences their full potential. while having fun and developing a love for music of all genres.  By working to discover each student's learning styles, I can make sure that each concept is adaptable so that our lessons are as efficient as possible. Whether your child learns better by hearing a demonstration of the music to be learned, having specific notes written out separate from the sheet music, or by recording the full lesson to have a resource to check their technique progress between lessons, we will work together to find the best way to help your child achieve their musical goals!
METHODS USED
A few of the concepts we will study include: * Fundamentals of Music theory (key signatures, scales, arpeggios) * Developing proper technique and sound (left-hand position and relaxing shoulders and bow arm for violin/viola, posture, breath control for voice students to expand range, diction and open/closed vowel sounds, use of head voice/falsetto and chest voice) * Performance experience (studio-held mock recitals for students of all levels and ages) * Ear training (recognizing intonation, memorizing recordings of pieces to be learned) For voice students, we will focus on singing properly to develop the best sound possible, while incorporating techniques into the music that you most want to sing and perform. I'll show you how breathing exercises will expand your range, and guide you to becoming a better performer by developing your stage presence! Even if you're nervous about singing in public, I will show you how to appear and feel more confident! Whether your goal is to sing on Broadway, pursue a degree in music, ace an audition, or to sing for your friends and family, I can guide you into becoming the best singer you can be. I can also assist with recording, production, and preparing demo tapes and recorded clips for Youtube or customized videos to give as gifts to loved ones.
LESSON STYLE
I use musical training in violin, viola, and voice as a catalyst to build confidence in my students. Music lessons also help my students learn how to evaluate their own work and to improve time-management skills. Parental involvement is very important after each lesson and for practice-time during the week. Children progress quickly and experience greater satisfaction when genuine praise is received from parents and other family members. I encourage children to demonstrate concepts from the day's lesson for their parent at the end of every session. This 5-10 minute time after the hour is over is essential to bond the child and parent, and to ensure efficient practice during the week! I use a multi-sensory approach to teaching, utilizing demonstrations, video clips, colorful flashcards, and musical games with movement. Lesson plans are customized for each student and provided in a complimentary packet once per month evaluating growth and weekly achievement goals. I email parents and older students regularly with lesson overviews from the previous lesson, and I include video clips and links to relevant technique. I also provide CDs and share MP3s on Google Drive with every student to help them develop skill in listening to different pieces of music and genres..
