Overview:
Hello! I am a motivated private music teacher who loves making the process of learning or developing your musical instrument challenging, exciting, and most importantly fun! I am an experienced private music instructor, professional contemporary singer, and actress who recently moved to Pittsburgh from Boston, MA.  I have worked with many students including rock singers, opera stars in the making, classical and jazz flutists, beginning pianists, and people just looking to have fun learning a new instrument.  I am a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music where I graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance and was awarded highest honors upon completion of my degree.  I have performed in some of Boston’s most well known concert halls such as Berklee College of Music ‘s, Berklee Performance Center and New England Conservatory’s, Jordan Hall. I have also appeared in a few major motion pictures such as Ted and independent films in the Pittsburgh area.  Beyond this, I have also just finished my graduate studies and have received a Master’s degree in music therapy. I use my training and understanding from this program to provide a well-structured and supportive environment for students of all ages and skill levels.  I am currently actively performing around the Pittsburgh area and working on my debut album to be released within the next year.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate studies at Berklee College of Music. Since, 2008 I have worked many singers, flutists, and beginning pianists and have been consistently teaching ever since. I like to have fun in my music lessons and strive to set up a supportive environment where my students can feel comfortable to play with music but learn in the process. I place a large emphasis on technique in my lessons within the chosen genre of the student. Whether you want to sing or play pop, rock, classical, or jazz... technique is important and I like to show students that working on technique can be fun and exciting! It is my belief that if a student is enjoying their lessons and seeing their own improvement, they will be motivated to keep up the practice. My favorite part of being a teacher is seeing a student's individual growth on his or her instrument and having them realize how much their efforts are  paying off!
METHODS USED
I always begin lessons with technical or theoretical studies for students of all ages and skill levels.  For voice I begin with leading the student in singing through scales, arpeggios, and vocal slides before moving into song study. I normally chose a piece for students to work on and ask them to bring in a few songs they are interested in learning and we chose together. I chose musical works that are challenging and targeted on improving the individual student. Each student is different and should be treated as such I like to make sure that my lessons are engaging and fun to each individual I teach.  In flute lessons, I like to work on long tones and breathing to work on having control of the tone of the instrument. I like to work with technical execises by Marcel Moyse for more advanced students and with Rubank Method books for beginner students. Then I practice song study in these lessons as well.  This all stated, I like to involve people as much as possible in the structure of their lessons and am flexible to working with different wants and needs from lessons.
LESSON STYLE
My approach to teaching is strongly based on the individual student's wants and needs. I never approach any lesson the same way and I never teach the same lesson twice. I like to have fun with music and help students find their passion and voice as a developing artist.
