Overview:
I have a Master's in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory, I love helping each student to achieve their personal best. I am an active flute performer, participating in orchestras and ensembles throughout the New England area. I am centered in Belmont, MA, but can arrange lessons in many areas.I was inspired to become a music instructor because of the impact that my own flute instructor had upon my development as a music student, as well as a person. I strive to instill love for the instrument and build self confidence in the student. I endeavor to help students develop their abilities to reason logically and think for themselves. I look forward to seeing my students each week, and I think they enjoy the time they spend with me too.

METHODS USED
I start with the fundamentals of classical music teaching rhythm and basic technique.  I like to start with teaching from "Learn to Play the Flute" so that students have a strong foundation in counting and note reading. I like all my students to tap the rhythms. Once they have finished the basic books, I incorporate an etude book a solo book, and a duet book. I believe guests are extremely important because you get to model my playing. I think that playing with other people is one of the most important aspects of music.
LESSON STYLE
Patience, encouragement, and positive reinforcement are the main goals of my teaching. I tailor my teaching to the individual's needs and to the interests of the students, offering the standard technical material and classical repertoire combined with folk and contemporary literature. I like to focus on teaching people to read music and gain a confidence in counting rhythms. I encourage new growth at every lesson, exposing them to new material each time we meet. I also enjoy incorporating personal interests. Providing opportunities to perform as a soloist and in groups, as well as to go to performances, is also important to the development of students confidence.

I have studied flute with Jackie for many years as an adult, and she is a thoughtful, intelligent teacher as well as a very accomplished musician. My technique and artistry have developed a great deal during my lessons with her, and I've had a wonderful time performing with her and other students at various concerts in the community.

Jackie taught flute to my middle school aged daughter. She was always on time, set clear expectations, and made good progress because she requested that my daughter do her warm up scales before the lesson began so that they could jump right in. She introduced duets and sight reading as a regular part of each lesson, and my daughter loved playing duets with Jackie. As a parent, a key benefit was that Jackie came to the house and she was reasonably priced.

I have been studying with Jackie for about 7 years now and she's an amazing flute teacher!! She has made this whole flute-learning process much more enjoyable for me and I have won a number of auditions and competitions thanks to her. I am currently in the orchestra at the New England Conservatory and have attended both Jr. and Sr. Districts and without Jackie, I would not be at the level of accomplishment I am at today. She's a wonderful teacher!
