BA, University of Maryland
I have extensive experience teaching and performing many genres of music including classical, heavy metal, pop, rock, R&B, and more. I have considerable composition experience, composing scores for corporate videos and documentaries, and my work has appeared on television and at film festivals across the country. I also have a significant amount of live experience, playing in numerous bands of many styles. I enjoy teaching guitar and piano to students with varying interests and goals, regardless of age or musical background.
I have been teaching students of all ages and skill levels for more than a decade. I always tailor my lessons to the student’s particular needs and interests, while still conveying important musical concepts. I encourage students to practice as much as possible; however, especially with adult students, practice time is not always readily available so I make a strong effort to customize lessons in such a way as to produce appreciable results within the context of the student’s goals and schedule.
I don’t use a particular method book or program, as I feel that students’ diverse skill levels, needs, and interests can vary greatly. I frequently focus on concepts of improvisation and composition, as the excitement of creating one’s own music is an excellent way to keep him/her engaged and interested in learning.
I specialize in helping students understand music theory and structure, even with beginning students. I feel that a deeper understanding of music is essential to keep students engaged and help them feel like they’re really learning the language of music rather than just learning instrumental technique. This knowledge readily translates into improved performance ability, as well as a much increased aptitude for composition/arranging/songwriting. I always provide exercises and techniques for students to practice at home to promote rapid progress in instrumental technique.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
