I am a very enthusiastic and down to earth teacher who loves working with students of all ages and experiences! I believe music to be a healing art that helps us connect with our individual voice and our bodies. As a singer, I have sung leading roles in operas in musicals in Seattle, Hawaii, Oklahoma and the Kansas City area, and am thrilled to share my love for performing through teaching, as well. I am currently receiving a post graduate degree in Opera Performance as part inaugural class at from William Jewell College. I continue to perform music theatre, and coach students for college and professional auditions in the theatre and opera industry. In college I worked for a theatre agent and acquired many strategies to help students obtain great success and confidence in their audition skills!
I have been teaching since late high school, and have been helping students curate their own performances and recitals. I am able to tailor my teaching to each individual student's needs and goals, all while creating a fun and encouraging work environment. As an opera singer, I encourage a classical technical foundation, while bringing the student's musical preferences into the mix, as well. I always strive to focus on what motivates and inspires the student, and build my teaching around that!
I always begin with teaching basic warm ups that help me understand the student's voice and breathing. For younger students, I often make these warm ups a bit silly to help them come out of their shell if they are nervous, or to establish a safe and fun place to play. For older students, I explain the warm ups a bit more, and discuss the goals of each exercise. It is also important to me that I help the student develop autonomy, or the skills to question and explore their singing in their practice outside of lessons.
As a teacher I am determined to help my students find their own unique, individual voice. With recordings constantly at our fingertips, I find it so important to help my students learn to create their own style and unique performances. It is important to me to help the students set goals however big or small, and guide them to the best strategies to achieve them. I want the environment to be fun and always encouraging. I have experience with nonbinary students, and always encourage students to sing repertoire that speaks to them, and that they enjoy- not repertoire that is "assigned." I am also a huge advocate for disability awareness, and have helped my students with disabilities to curate and program their own recitals. Allowing my students to grow and learn at their own pace is my priority. I will always cater to their individual needs!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
