Hello future students, and thank you for considering me. I am an educated musician with a super track record for getting results from my students. My specialties are trumpet and jazz vocals. I can help you with everything from the technical aspects of music to the interpretation of the music you wish to learn. My lessons are tailored to each student. While I do use some method books, I also do a lot of writing for my students, because one method does not fit all. Your success is my success. I teach music because I absolutely love it! I also love teaching adults who wish that they had tried music as kids. I teach beginner piano, voice, composition or song writing, as well as all level trumpet skills. I can also transcribe your song ideas for you.
I began teaching while i was in Jr College. At that time, I was studying trumpet with the Dallas Symphony's 2nd chair trumpet player. My students were high schoolers. While at UNT, I began teaching in Southlake, Tx and my students took lessons on trumpet, trombone, french horn, and baritone. I continued teaching for 7 years. Following my teaching career, I took on a career in music instrument wholesale and retail, owning a music store for a long time. Now, I am doing what I love again, this time with even more passion. Teaching, playing, and writing oh my! I teach in my home, your home, or online via skype.
My methods vary from student to student, instrument to instrument. For beginners, I tend to write lessons for my students that address their needs. I supplement beginner sklls with method books, once the student is on their way. The method books vary a bit too, based on each students skill set. For trumpet, I still like Arban, Clark, and Embouchure builder. For piano, I like a variety, as long as the basic skills are on point with an eye towards learning to read music in addition to playing it. I always teach some music theory as part of my lessons. You can study in 30 minute or 60 minute sessions with me.
I believe my teaching style reflects my passion for music. I am an energetic and patient teacher. Your needs will be addressed in a creative, humorous, original, and supportive way. I don't believe in teaching through fear or intimidation. Learning to play an instrument should be fun. With me, it will be. Do not be afraid of trying, because you will never play if you do not try! Give it a shot, lets get inspired, and do something great! The greatest reward I could ever receive is watching a student grow and succeed.
