Overview:
I have recently relocated to the Hartford area from Rochester, NY, where I was pursuing my DMA at the Eastman School of Music. Previously, I earned degrees at the University of Miami and Ithaca College. I have also been able to accumulate extensive professional experience, playing primarily in symphony orchestras and pit orchestras for musicals. I am lucky to have shared the stage with some of the world's greatest musicians and to have played a lot of amazing music. I am excited to take advantage of all the opportunities the Hartford area has to offer.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching during my undergraduates studies in Ithaca, NY, where I taught trumpet-playing brothers for a local family. I was a teaching assistant during both of my graduate degrees, where I enjoyed teaching non-music majors and mentoring my studio mates and colleagues. I'm lucky enough to have studied with some of the world's greatest trumpet players, and it is a joy to be able to pass on all of that cumulative knowledge and wisdom. I have taught trumpet players of all levels, and love seeing when things "click" for my students.
METHODS USED
I like to give my students a steady diet of fundamentals, etudes, and solos. For the fundamentals of trumpet playing, I generally use the standard methods and etudes, such as Arban, Clarke, Schlossberg, and so on. There are many great etude books out there--some that I like to use are Bordogni, Hering, Brandt, and Vizzutti. As for solo repertoire, it depends on the interests and goals of the student. The standard classical repertoire is always good (Haydn, Hummel, Arutunian), but if a student is more interested in jazz or popular music, then I would focus on that.
LESSON STYLE
I have two overarching goals in my teaching: first, to help students improve their musical literacy and knowledge, and second, to cultivate the joy and pride that comes from making music. Music--playing it, teaching it, learning about it--is my great passion in life, and it is incredibly important to me to be able to pass on a love and respect for the arts to other people. Our increasingly digital world has many great benefits, but one downside is that we sometimes lose our sense of creativity and artistry. No matter the level of the student, my ultimate goal is to unlock the creative potential in my students, so that they can experience the fulfillment that comes from making art.

Ethan was my trumpet lesson instructor for three years at Eastman. He is obviously an extremely talented musician, but he is also an incredible teacher. He is great at personalizing his lessons for what I was able to work on and what I needed to improve on, and would regularly find new exercises and repertoire for me. He would pick up on things that helped me learn and implement them in my lessons, like letting me "mimic" him in a call/response type fashion. Ethan is also great at communicating, which is not an easy skill when it comes to explaining music and instrumental playing, and I was always able to understand what he wanted me to change or work on. I can honestly say that I improved in my playing thanks to him. I notice little things here and there, like playing stronger in the low register or playing a phrase more "musically" than I would have in the past, things Ethan worked on with me, where when you add them all together really remind me that I am a stronger player now.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
