I love sharing my passion for music and experience with aspiring musicians. As an honor student at the City University of New York, part of my undergrad work included playing for Broadway shows. Subsequent gigs included working with recognized acts and artists touring through New York which resulted in performances at Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Nassau Coliseum and Westbury Music Fair, to name a few. Past and current performances and musical experiences have been with nationally marketed acts for shows in the United States and abroad. As an instrument repair tech, I also have album credits for saxophone sound consultation, instrument repair and that type of work, with grammy winning artists.
My experience teaching began while I was working on my undergraduate degree. Student tutoring earned me some money, helped my fellow students, while developing my teaching skills. I believe music and music learning should be fun so I like to incorporate my student's musical interests and what they may want to learn in their session with me. I always encourage participation in the school bands as well as outside bands to promote their personal musical growth which ultimately nurtures the person within. This approach works for players of all levels of experience who are looking to grow.
With all my students I try to develop the ability to play from memory and off the top of their head. I always include what the student might be musically interested in as well. Depending on their level I will use different books along the way. For beginners I may use Rubank to get some scales under their fingers and perhaps a songbook but for others who are more advanced I may use Sigurd Rascher Top Tones to develop altissimo register, or a rhythm book like Rhythms Complete to develop sight reading. That will depend on the need. I will also draw from my experience to guide the student along the way.
I enjoy seeing students playing music and learning songs and ideas on the own. I want to give my students the knowledge and ability to learn songs and music, independent of someone standing next to them to guide them. Tools like that enable students to play in a concert setting as well as in small ensembles and jamming with their friends. That's where the fun comes in to play, literally and figuratively! I like seeing my students who have gone on to be college music majors or have become all state/county inductees. I feel good knowing that when they succeed, I succeed!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
