2019 - 2nd Prize Schubert Club Winner
Music has been a substantial part of my life from a very young age. I took piano lessons, dance, played violin, and now dedicate my life to the saxophone. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from St. Norbert College. I am currently pursuing my Master of Music degree at the University of Minnesota. Throughout my career, I have been able to study and perform with very well known soloists and ensembles around the country. Earlier this year (2019), I received 2nd place in the Schubert Club Woodwind Competition. I look forward to continuing performances and my journey with the saxophone.
I started teaching private lessons in early 2018. Since then, my studio has grown to include multiple piano and saxophone students. One of my favorite aspects about teaching privately is seeing student growth over the course of time. I love seeing students who have as much of a passion for music as I do. It's so heartwarming to teach potential future musicians. A goal of mine is to make lessons enjoyable. If they aren't enjoyable, no one will learn. I also expect my students to practice every day. This is the only way to success in my mind.
I usually start beginner saxophone students on Standard of Excellence books because that is what I used and I think they work well. Piano students will start on Alfred books for the same reason. I do not emphasize the book right away, however. I want, especially my saxophone students, to achieve the best sound they can before reading notes. Also, fundamentals are so important for piano. I might not start a piano book until a few lessons in. I started making practice logs for all my students so they can write down exactly what they practice every day.
As my studio grows, I realize my love for teaching more and more each day. Seeing students grow in their musicianship brings a smile to my face constantly. None of my students are the same, and I make it a goal of mine to adapt to each individual student. Along with that, every student wants to learn something different. I am not going to make a student perform a piece that they don't want to. Learning should be a fun and enjoyable experience. I set goals for my students and want them to work hard, but I also have a relaxed teaching style and emphasize positive feedback.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
