Im a singer/songwriter, violinist, violist, vocalist, arranger and composer. I've performed with Bobbie Eakes, recorded for Ashanti, performed in Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, and received many accolades for my performance, recording, and teaching career of over 20 years! For younger children I use the instrument chosen as a tool to understand music as whole.. this gives them the ability to play many instruments later on and switch if so desired.. As desire for a specific instrument grows we focus on techniques (i like to use the best of many techniques - Russian school, American School, Suzuki, and more method approaches) to customize to each students specific needs. I'm passionate about performing and teaching! I love using my gift to enrich others lives!
I have been performing professionally for over 25 years (since age 16) and have been teaching private and group lessons since age 18! I studied pedagogy and worked with the Midori Foundation, was a Brooklyn Philharmonic teaching artist, and have performed in 47 states and 6 different countries. My students have gone on to music school, have won competitions, and have even appeared in movies! I always say that not every teacher is for every student, BUT I prize myself as a highly imaginative teacher and I'm usually able to enthuse a child with my knowledge and love of music!
I use a LOT of things to teach. First, I believe music is an extension of life. Habits I see in the lessons are invariably habits that invade the rest of a students existence. Sometimes its organization, motivation, or other factors that students need individual help. I try to address and help with these THROUGH music lessons. As far as music itself.. In strings I draw on the American School of Teaching (Galamian, Delay) and the Russian school (Leopold Auer).. and Suzuki and Feldenkrais.. As a pianist I believe we must follow modern life so all students learn to play melodies AS WELL as chords!! This enables the student to learn ALL styles of music!
My teaching style is a combination of over twenty years of experience. I am very organized and have much of my methods already printed on paper. I also like to 'teach a man to fish' i believe educating the student on HOW to practice is just as important as WHAT to practice. I also believe in teaching the student efficiency in practice. These days, the world is so full there is no time for anything, but music study permeates and helps all of life.. from growing patience, concentration, thoughtfulness, and open-mindedness. It also instills basic math skills AND it IS physical exercise too! (limited exercise depending upon instrument)
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
