Overview:
I have been playing for about 8 years now and in 2014 I became the first graduate from Washington & Jefferson College who specialized on guitar. I am currently seeking a Master's degree but in my spare time I am looking forward to spreading my knowledge by teaching others and paying it forward. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music where I studied privately and performed the guitar for 4 years and developed a thorough understanding of music theory and composition. While there I performed with the jazz ensemble along with a production of Grease. My senior capstone also included a performance of guitar solo pieces. I am currently working on writing and recording a few projects.
EXPERIENCE
I have given private lessons to family members and friends and I'm looking forward to branching out and establishing myself as a teacher in this area. I'd like to adapt my own style of teaching based off of the style that my private instructor used and I will use the book that got me started. I have studied under several different teachers and have developed and understanding of what methods work and what methods don't work. I have provided some mentoring to other musicians in the ensembles I've played in and in an informal setting such as with friends but I am very excited to meet you all and help you get involved in the joys of music!
METHODS USED
I will typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method. It is one of the most commonly used books to learn from and spans from the very beginner up to some more advanced techniques. After the beginning lessons I will gauge what the student is interested in and develop the lessons from there. I can also help students prepare for solo recitals as I've performed them myself. I offer both half hour and hour lessons depending on how much the student can handle practicing each week. I can teach from my apartment or I would be willing to travel to you. Online lesson via skype would also be an option.
LESSON STYLE
I will teach each student based on what they already know, and the lessons will progress at the pace that is best for that particular student. Once the fundamentals have been learned the lessons can become more personal and adhere to the style of music and songs that the student would like to learn while still expanding on technique. My early guitar experience is mostly self taught so I am experienced in the type of songs that beginners can pick up on. My later experience fine tuned my technique so I know the problems that beginners might experience and I can help steer them away from bad habits before they develop.
