Overview:
I'm currently a new transplant to the Gulf Coast, Originally from NY I've taught in NYC, Boston and Atlanta, Florida and Nashville. I've been a drum teacher for 28 years and my personal students read like a whos who of drumming. For many years I have taught and still teach many of the top professionals and biggest names in drumming. Many professionals fly in to see me, or have me fly out to coach them on their tours or in studio.  See my Zildjian Artist Link. I was privileged to have studied with Jim Chapin (who I filled in for and played in NYC with his own personal band when he went on tour for several years). I was the only drummer he picked to do so. I also studied with Dom Famularo, Gary Chaffee, Gary Chester, Franke Malabe. I've been playing professionally since I was in HS. Some of the artists I've toured and/or recorded with: Idina Menzel (Frozen, Rent, Wicked), Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan, Lisa Loeb. As a performer I have traveled around the world on tours. I have also played and recorded in studios around the globe as well.
EXPERIENCE
I have always been drawn to teaching. There's an amazing satisfaction I get when we as a team have goal and you as a student accompish and learn something new. I began teaching in 1986. I quickly developed a very good reputation as a teacher on Long Island at the Long Island Drum Center. Within several months of starting there, I had over 60 students. By the end of my first year there, every teacher at all 5 stores they had at the time were studying with me. I have a passion for learning and that passes on to my students with whom I share my years of knowledge with. Know that by studying with me you will need to make an effort. With any amount of effort, results will always be produced. My goal is to make you or your child a musician of the highest calibur. If only for fun or if to prepare for a career, I can guide you, there's no linit to where you can go if you have the passion to create music. It will touch every single part of your life. It will make you a better student. You will learn to communicate and listen better. If you have a true desire, I can help you obtain your goals.
METHODS USED
There is no cookie cutter or one size fits all approach to teaching a student. Each and every student is in a different place and has different strong and weak points. I'm well aware of this and therefore each students experience will be different compared to the others. In studying with Jim Chapin and Dom Famularo, I incorporate their approach to technique. called the Moellor Method, you will learn to use motion instead of muscle to control and create an unlimited amount of speed and endurance. I also teach Gary Chaffee's methods dealing with Rhythm and Meter. Mastering Time. As drummers we control time. All music is math. A combination of numbers. You will learn to master and control time.
LESSON STYLE
I get my students to think beyond the notes on the page. To think first, and when performing learn how to put eveything you've learned into a musical context. We will set goals and step by step reach each and every single one of them together. I approach teaching drums as more of a coach. A coach who will lead you onto the court and prepare you to always be at the best of your ability. The student is encouraged to bring music to work on. I will also take each student on a journey that explores the styles of music today and how we got to them from the past. All music forms borrow from one another. All music shares one common element: Ryhthm. As drummers we are masters of it and I will work with you to become the best musician you can. Whether you dream of the big stages and studios, or simply want to have fun and gain a practical knowledge of playing music...I can help you get to where you wish to be...and will push you beyond that.

Dave is a fantastic teacher. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to students that I think is invaluable. At the same time, this does not limit him from working with beginning students. He is very communicative with the parents as far as schedule changes. We are so grateful to have found him!!
