Course Work: University of New Mexico
Semi-Finalist of National Trumpet Competition
Trumpet Player for Al Hurricane Jr.
I started playing the Trumpet when I was ten years old. Since then, I have performed in dozens of academic ensembles and a few professional ones. I moved to Albuquerque in 2017 to start at the University of New Mexico. Currently, I study Music Education at UNM. Since moving here, I have learned lots about music. I hope to pass on the wisdom about music that I have gained since I started playing my instrument. I currently play with local groups around the Albuquerque area and many of the UNM ensembles.
I've been playing Trumpet for around 10 years. Since then, I have performed in concert bands, jazz bands, marching bands, and orchestra. I have soloed in each ensemble and was consistently first chair. As a senior in high school, I was ranked the best student trumpet player in the state. Since moving to Albuquerque, I started playing different gigs around town and even got the chance to play weekly with the Al Hurricane Jr. Band. I have taught students from 10 years old to full grown adults and have seen rapid improvement in all of my students.
I always start with making a good tone. Music has never sounded good with a poor sound. A trumpet player must have a clear tone. I have my student start by just making noise and working on how to produce a beautiful sound. Next, we start on reading music to the point that we can play it. This is very important for future possibilities. Another thing we would work on is playing by ear. Being able to play without sheet music is a very cool skill to have and prepares the student for when a family member asks them to play something.
I try to teach as my teachers taught me. My first instructor would always mention how he wanted me to have a "toolbox" of which I can use to find the correct tool for the issue at hand. I do my best to not spoon-feed information, but rather allow the student to struggle just enough to learn. I also attempt to keep fun at the forefront of everything. Without fun, music would be worthless. I also believe in fitted lessons, meaning I try to figure out the student's personality and fit the lesson accordingly.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
